Classes

Taking registrations for FALL 2018 now!

Ten weekly, 45-minute classes include songs, rhythmic rhymes, movement, and instrument play. These activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences--developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers--regardless of their own musical ability.  Tuition includes a 25-song CD, illustrated songbook, parent guide and digital downloads of all the songs from the current semester, as well as access to the online Family Music Zone with ideas for enriching your music-making at home.

New Songbook this Fall!
The first edition of our new family songbook series is here! Each song in the Fiddle collection is brought to life through colorful and engaging illustrations by award-winning artist Jaime Kim. The new book will inspire your family to play with music all week long. You'll find it helpful to learn the lyrics, as a jumping-off point for creative storytelling, and to learn more about the songs you're singing in class. Your child may enjoy snuggling with you and singing through the whole book at once—or opening to a page to tell you what song they want to sing!

  • Try out a family class to see if it's a good fit for you and your child. Let Joanna know if you'd like to attend--any time during the current session.

  • Rhythm Kids is a new drumming, music, and movement, program for children ages 4–8. Joanna will be offering demo classes at Davis Studio in South Burlington this fall. Classes naturally support children’s rhythm development and help them prepare for formal music lessons. Rhythm Kids Level 1 classes are for 4- to 5-year-old preschoolers, and Level 2 classes are for children in kindergarten through second grade. In both levels of class, children play dynamic musical games, work in ensembles, explore solo singing and drumming, and experiment with conducting and improvisation using a repertoire of well-loved Music Together songs, plus new material adapted from or inspired by drumming traditions from around the world, including Ghana, Ireland, and Bali.
